Orvil M. Robinson Patent Rifle

Courtesy Buffalo Bill Historical Center, Cody, Wyoming
Robinson tube-fed repeating rifle was made in New York, between 1870 and 1874. Early models 1870-1872 marked "A.S. Babbitt"; later models 1872-1874 "Adirondack Arms Co.". Company was sold to Winchester in 1874, but they never produced Robinson after that date. Rifle has been found in two styles: first with small fingers on hammer to cock and operate mechanism; second with buttons on receiver to retract bolt and cock hammer. Rifle made in .44-caliber, with octagonal barrel usually found in 26" or 28" length. Frames predominantly brass. Some iron frames have been noted and will bring a premium of approximately 25 percent. Barrel and magazine tube have blued finish. Fewer than 600 made.
