Allen & Wheelock Center Hammer Army Revolver

Large military-type single-action revolver chambered for .44-caliber percussion. Had 7.5" half-octagon barrel and 6-shot unfluted cylinder. Hammer mounted in center of frame. Finish blued. Case colored hammer and trigger guard. Walnut grips. Barrel marked, "Allen & Wheelock. Worchester, Mass. U.S./Allen's Pt's. Jan. 13, 1857. Dec. 15, 1857, Sept. 7, 1858". Approximately 700 manufactured between 1861 and 1862.
