AMERICA REMEMBERS
Location: Ashland, Virginia. Established 1993.
This firm issues commemorative-style modern cartridge firearms and reproduction blackpowder guns with special decoration usually memorializing an individual, event, organization, or concept. The guns themselves are manufactured by other firms and are marketed by direct advertisement to end buyer rather than through distributors. The entire list of over 175 variations can be found at americaremembers.com and range from an Aaron Tippon Tribute Colt .45 Pistol to a Zorro Tribute revolver. Unlike most commemoratives issued directly by firearms manufacturers, there is usually not a pre-set limit on the number produced.
The American Historical Foundation produced and marketed decorated firearms in a similar manner and was acquired by America Remembers in 2005. A separate firm, Franklin Mint, sold non-firing replica guns with a similar approach.
There is not a strong secondary collector market for these. Resale values will generally start at where an undecorated example of the same firearm in the same condition would sell. A buyer with a strong fondness for the event, organization, or person commemorated may pay an additional premium for the decoration.
See additional comments on this general type of gun under the COLT COMMEMORATIVES section.
