ECHEVERRIA, STAR-BONIFACIO SA (STAR)
Location: Eibar, Spain
An old-line Spanish company that survived Spanish Civil War. Founded in 1908 by Jean Echeverria, but early records of the company were lost during the civil war. Early pistols the company produced were patterned after Mannlicher designs and trade name Star was the closest thing to Steyr that could be used. After the close of WWI, the company began production of open-topped slide Star for which they have become known. They also produced a large 1911-type pistol that was successful. During the civil war, the plant was damaged and company records destroyed; but after cessation of hostilities, they were one of only three gun companies that were allowed to remain in business. Company is now defunct.
