Hungary's first domestically produced military and police semi-automatic blowback pistol in 9mm Makarov caliber, to replace older M48 Tokarev-style pistol in 7.62x25mm. The RK 59 has an aluminum frame that was found to be an economically attractive move, however, it was soon learned that the frame was prone to accelerated wear due to the soft nature of aluminum coupled with the 9mm Makarov cartridge. It lasted in service but two years, only to be replaced by the R 61. Blue steel slide, with markings of RK 59, caliber and Communist Kadar crest. Less than 1,900 were imported from 1993 to 1996. Scarce.
