GEORGIA ARMORY

Established in 1862, this concern produced a rifle based upon U.S. Model 1855 Harper's Ferry Rifle. Nearly identical in all respects to Harpers Ferry, Georgia Armory rifle had a lockplate patterned after U.S. Model 1841 Rifle. Lock marked "G.A. ARMORY" over date (1862 or 1863). Buttplate tangs marked with serial numbers. Highest known serial number is 309. Rifles were fitted with saber bayonets. Expert authentication is highly recommended.
