Military Automatic Pistol

A .45 ACP caliber semi-automatic pistol, with 6.75" barrel and 8-shot magazine. Blued, with checkered walnut grips. Marked on right of slide "Grant Hammond Mfg. Corp. New Haven, Conn." Left side shows patent dates. Manufactured in 1917. As all known specimens of this pistol exhibit differences, it is believed they were only made as prototypes. Highest serial number known is under 20. In 1918, it was considered by the U.S. military as a possible replacement for the 1911 pistol. Automatically ejects magazine when the last round is fired. Too rare to price.
