4-Barreled Pistol

Unique pistol for several reasons. Chambered for .476 rimfire cartridge and four 6.25" barrels. Bore has slightly twisted oval pattern that imparts a spin to bullet. Barrels are hinged at bottom and break downward for loading. Double-action type lockwork, with long difficult trigger pull. Pistol well made and caliber suitably heavy to insure stopping power. Primary goal was military; successful seeing action in Sudan campaigns of 1882 and 1885. This powerful weapon was also popular with big game hunters as a backup sidearm. Finish blued, with checkered walnut grips. Marked "Charles Lancaster (Patent) 151 New Bond St. London". Introduced in 1881. There are smaller-caliber versions of this pistol, with shorter barrels. They are not as well known as large-caliber version and values would be similar as their rarity would be balanced by desirability of large bore models.
