.28 caliber (sometimes mistakenly called .31 cal.) bar-hammer double-action percussion pepperbox, with 3", 4" or 5" barrels and 5- or 6-shot barrel groups. Blued & casehardened finishes with walnut grips. Marked “Manhattan F. A. MFG. Co. / New York” with some later specimens dropping the address, and "Cast Steel.” Major variations of this pistol are as follows:
