Model 1881 Lever-Action Rifle
First Marlin lever-action rifle. Always been regarded as a high quality rifle. Capable of handling large calibers and well received by the shooting public. Chambered for .32-40, .38-55, .40-60, .45-70 and .45-85. The 24", 28" or 30" octagonal barrel is standard. Round barrels were offered and are scarce today. There is a tubular magazine beneath the barrel. Rear sight is buckhorn type, with a blade on front. Ejects its empty cartridges from top. Finish blued, with case colored hammer, lever and buttplate. Walnut stock is varnished. Approximately 20,000 manufactured between 1881 and 1892, but this is not easy to ascertain, as factory records on Marlin rifles are quite incomplete. NOTE: Add 200-300 percent premium for 1st Models prior to serial number 600; 15 percent premium for .45-70 caliber.
