Model 1893 Lever-Action Rifle
First rifle Marlin designed for, then new, smokeless powder cartridges. Chambered for .25-36, .30-30, .32 Special, .32-40 and .38-55. Offered standard: round or octagonal barrel in lengths of 24" to 32"; buckhorn rear and blade front sights. Receiver, lever, hammer and buttplate are case colored. Rest is blued. Stock varnished walnut.
As with all early Marlins, many options were offered and when encountered, will drastically alter value of particular rifle. For this reason, we supply values for basic model and urge securing competent appraisal on non-standard specimens. Barrel on earlier guns marked "Marlin FireArms Co. New Haven, Ct.U.S.A./ Patented Oct.11. 1887.April 2.1889.Aug.1.1893". In 1919, markings were changed to "The Marlin Firearms Corporation/ New Haven, Conn.U.S.A.Patented". Rifles manufactured after 1904 are marked "Special Smokeless Steel" on left side of barrel. Upper tang marked "Model 1893" on early guns; "Model 93" on later specimens. Approximately 900,000 manufactured between 1893 and 1935. Factory records are incomplete on Model 1893.
