Marked "Maynard Patentee/May 27, 1851/June 17, 1856". Has iron patchbox; curved buttplate; Maynard tape primer system; tang sight. Later production fitted with a sling swivel. Approximately 400 of these carbines are U.S. marked. Total manufactured in late 1850s is unknown.
