Animal Trap Gun
.28- or .30-caliber percussion pepperbox, with 1.75" or 2.12" barrel group. Hammer made with-/without spur. Marked "North & Couch, Middletown, Conn." or "North & Couch New York". Manufactured during 1860s. All barrels fire simultaneously. Intended to be set as an untended trap gun, firing when the bait is pulled (a truly horrid idea). Unlike most animal trap guns, these models could also be fired as a pistol by pulling the trigger.
