Rolling block in .50-70 caliber. High hammer spur, and breechblock lever sticks out to the right side instead of vertically. Rifle has 36-in. barrel with three barrel bands. Saddle ring carbine has a 22-in. barrel. In 1872 about 15,000 were made for the New York National Guard. May be found with inspector H.B.H. and US N.Y. markings. Carbines will bring about a 20% premium.
