Animal Trap Gun

Cast iron .28- to .50-caliber percussion trap gun. Single-/double-barrel 3.5" or 5" in length. Firearm fires a barbed arrow and is triggered by a cord attached to an animal trap or bait. Barrels marked "F. Reuth's Patent, May 12, 1857". Several hundred made between 1858 and 1862. NOTE: Single-barrel model more common than double-barrel and worth approximately 20 percent less.
