Model 1851 Carbine

Single-shot breech-loading percussion rifle, in .36-, .44- or .52-caliber. A 21.75" barrel and Maynard tape priming device. Blued and case-hardened, with walnut stock. Forearm held on by a single-barrel band. Buttplate and barrel band are brass. Military versions feature brass patchbox. Tang marked "C. Sharps Patent 1848"; barrel "Robbins & Lawrence"; priming device "Edward Maynard Patentee 1845". Approximately 1,800 carbines and 180 rifles manufactured by Robbins & Lawrence in Windsor, Vermont, in 1851. NOTE: Those bearing U.S. inspection marks are worth approximately 75 percent more than values listed.
