SPRINGFIELD ARMORY
Springfield Armory was our country’s first federal armory begun in 1777 in Springfield, Massachusetts, at a site chosen by George Washington. For almost two centuries, it was the primary facility for the manufacturer of firearms for the armed forces of the United States, until its closing in 1968. For information on the many models made at Springfield Armory, please refer to the Standard Catalog of Military Firearms, available at GunDigestStore.com. Current manufacturer and importer of modern rifles and handguns, Springfield Armory, Inc. of Geneseo, Illinois, is not associated with the historic military armory of the same name.
