First Issue New Model Pocket Rifle

This version is first of the medium-frame models, with a frame width of 1". All of its predecessors have a .625" wide frame. Chambered for .22 and .32 rimfire cartridges. Offered with barrel lengths of 10", 12", 15" or 18" that are part-octagonal in configuration. External hammer has the firing pin mounted on it. Has a plated brass frame, blued barrel and walnut or rosewood grips. Shoulder stock is nickel-plated and fitted differently than the small-frame models, in that there is a dovetail in the butt and top leg is secured by a knurled screw. Barrel marked "J. Stevens & Co. Chicopee Falls, Mass.". Approximately 8,000 manufactured between 1872 and 1875.
