Red Label Early Production

Red Label over/under shotgun introduced in 1977. Only in 20 gauge, with 12-gauge version added in 1982; 28 gauge in 1995. Original Red Label had blue finish on both receiver and barrels. Fixed chokes, with 26" or 28" ventilated rib barrels and bead front sight. Interchangeable choke tubes were offered as an option in 1988 and became standard in 1990. Stainless receiver with blued barrel became optional in 1985 and then standard starting in 1989. General features include single selective mechanical trigger, selective automatic ejectors and checkered American walnut stock, with pistol-grip or English-type straight-grip. Streamlined boxlock action has no exposed pins or screws. Weights ranged from 7 to 8 lbs. Red label was in production through 2011. After a hiatus of a couple years and a few minor changes, it returned to Ruger catalog in 2014.
