Chinese Licenses Tokarev

China received tooling to manufacture the Tokarev in 1950, and began production of their own copy at Number 66 Shenyang factory. Introduced as Type 51, which used a combination of Russian and Chinese made parts, it was practically identical to its Russian Counterpart. Replaced by Type 54 (in 1954), it differed by virtue that its construction was completely indigenous without borrowed Russian components. Markings on Type 51 and 54 have serial number, a star and production year on rear left frame, with Chinese written model number on right side, as well as stamped on upper top rear of the slide. As with the Russian version, they have become highly collectible in recent times given their affiliation with both Korean and Vietnam wars. Surviving Type 51 pistols are normally in very rough shape, but reap high prices, as much as 50 percent over those shown, which represent the more common Type 54. These were never imported into the United States and the majority are war-time bring backs. Again, the presence of capture papers greatly enhance values.
