Polish Licensed Tokarev
From 1947 to 1959, Poland manufactured the PW wz.33 at FB factory Number 11 in Radom. This was their copy of Russian Tokarev built under Soviet license. Mechanically identical to TT-33, its hard rubber grips do not have the star in a circle and are straight lined. Production year and Number 11 in a circle are marked on slide top, with serial number and year marked on left frame. Imported to United States in the 1990s, BATF demanded that all Tokarev-type imports be installed with a trigger block safety. Thus, importers were responsible in assuring installation of this prior to the pistols entering U.S. Most import outlets have since sold out of these pistols. Collectors feel it destroys originality, which is true, not to mention the addition of import markings which reduce value as well. Polish Tokarev imports have a rotating thumb or bar safety on left frame (depending on the importer), which some owners have removed and replaced with a dummy pin to restore originality. Those Polish Takarev variants picked up in Vietnam or elsewhere, without this feature, will increase prices 50 to 60 percent higher.
