Hunt Repeating Rifle
Walter Hunt described his repeating rifle as Volition Repeater. Hunt was granted U.S. patent #6663 in August 1849 for his repeating rifle. That paved the way for future generations of Winchester repeating rifles. Hunt's rifle design was unique and innovative as was his patent #5701 for a conical lead bullet that was to be fired in his rifle. This ingenious bullet had a hole in its base filled with powder and closed by a disc with an opening in the middle to expel the ignition from an independent priming source that used priming pellets made of fulminate of mercury. Rifle actually worked, but only the patent model was built; it is now in the Cody Firearms Museum.
