Bolt-action rifle with tubular magazine. Chambered for .22 Short, Long and LR cartridges interchangeably. Early rifles available with 2.75x or 5x telescopes, but majority furnished with open or peep sights. This model was not serial numbered. Built between 1938 and 1959. About 161,000 sold. Note: Add 100% premium for Gallery Special: 200% for factory scopes and no sights (depending on condition); 25% premium for peep sights; 20% for Model 72A with grooved receiver. Available in two different configurations: 1. Sporting Rifle: 25" round barrel; chambered for .22 Short, Long and LR cartridges; one-piece plain walnut pistol-grip stock and forend. 2. Gallery Special: 25" round barrel; chambered for .22 Short only; stock same as Sporting Rifle.
