Model 1868 Iron Frame Rifle Musket

Calibers .45, .455 and .47 centerfire; overall length 49.5" (.455-cal.), 50.5" or 53" (.45- and .47-cal.); barrel length 29.5" (.455-cal.), 30.25" or 33" (.45- and .47-cal.). Walnut stock, with case-hardened or burnished bright furniture (.45- and .47-cal.); barrel burnished bright; receiver case-hardened or burnished bright (.45- and .47-cal.). Finger lever catch mounted on lower receiver tang. Rear of finger lever machined with a long flat extension on its upper surface. Unmarked, except for serial number. Approximately 30 examples made in .45- and .455-caliber; 250 in .47-caliber. In 2016 Rock Island Auction sold an iron frame musket made for British Trials in excellent condition for $28,750.
