Winchester's Improvement Carbine

Overall length 43.5"; barrel length 24"; caliber .44 rimfire. Walnut stock with brass buttplate; receiver and magazine cover/fore-end of brass; barrel and magazine tube blued. Magazine loading port is exposed by sliding the fore-end forward. This design was protected by O.F. Winchester's British Patent Number 3285 issued December 19, 1865. Unmarked except for internally located serial numbers. Approximately 700 manufactured in December 1865 and early 1866. The majority of these were sold to Maximilian of Mexico. Prospective purchasers are strongly advised to secure an expert appraisal prior to acquisition. Values are extremely speculative.
