"Buntline Special" was named after a dime novelist named Ned Buntline, who supposedly gave this special long barrel revolver to Wyatt Earp. Story is suspected to be purely legend as no Colt records exist to lend it credence. Be that as it may, Colt factory decided to take advantage of the market and produced 12" barreled SAA from 1957-1974. Approximately 3,900 were manufactured. Chambered for .45 Colt cartridge. Offered in blued and case colored finish. Only 65 Buntlines are nickel-plated, making this an extremely rare variation that definitely should be authenticated before purchase. Walnut grips are most commonly noted. Also offered with checkered hard rubber grips. Barrels marked on left side "Colt Buntline Special .45". NOTE: Add 100 percent for nickel finish.
