First Model Ring Lever Rifle

This was actually the first firearm manufactured by Colt; first revolver appeared a short time later. There were 200 of First Models made in 1837 and 1838. Octagonal barrel of First Model is 32" long and browned, while rest of the finish is blued. Stock is varnished walnut with a cheekpiece inlaid with Colt's trademark. Ring lever located in front of frame is pulled to rotate the 8-shot cylinder and cock the hammer. Rifle is chambered for .34-, .36-, .38-, .40- and .44-caliber percussion. Cylinder is roll-engraved and barrel is stamped "Colt's Patent/Patent Arms Mfg. Co., Paterson, N. Jersey". This model has a top strap over the cylinder. They were made both with and without an attached loading lever. Latter is worth approximately 10 percent more.
