SAA Frontier Six-Shooter with Etched Barrel 1878-1882

Several thousand SAAs were made with the legend "Colt's Frontier Six Shooter" acid-etched into left side of barrel instead of being stamped. This etching is not deep and today collectors will become ecstatic if they discover a specimen with mere vestiges of the etched panel remaining. These acid-etched SAAs are serial numbered #45000-#65000. They have various barrel lengths and finishes, but all are chambered for .44-40 caliber. After 1882, FRONTIER SIXSHOOTER was stamped on the barrel of .44-40 models rather than etched. These stamp-marked models are valued under SAA Standard Civilian Production.
