SAA Late Military Cavalry Model 1878-1891

Later Military Models are serial numbered to approximately #136000. They bear block-style barrel address without the # prefix and suffix. Frames are marked "US"; grips have inspector's cartouche. Finish is military-style polish, case colored frame and remainder blued. Grips are oil-stained walnut. On military marked Colts, it is imperative that potential purchases be authenticated as many fakes have been noted. NOTE: Revolvers produced from 1878 to 1885 will command a premium. Seek an expert appraisal prior to sale. In original 7.5" barrel configuration, US military SAAs are called "Cavalry Models," to differntiate them from the government altered 5.5" barrel "Artillery Models." Year of production and government inspector initials can impact value. High condition guns are very rare. In 2019 Rock Island Auction sold the "Finest known 1880 Production Colt Cavalry Model" in unfired As New condition for $403,500.
