Model 1855 Full Stock Military Rifle
Holds 6-shots in its .44-caliber chambering and 5-shots when chambered for .56-caliber. A rare .64 caliber version was also made with total production fewer than 25, worth substantial premium. Another side hammer revolving rifle that resembles Half Stock model. Barrels are round and part-octagonal where they join the frame. Come in lengths of 21", 24", 27", 31" and 37". Hammer and loading lever are case colored; rest of metal parts blued. Walnut buttstock and full length fore-end are oil-finished with sling swivels. Cylinder is fully fluted. Military models have provisions for affixing a bayonet, military-style sights and bear "U.S." martial mark on examples that were actually issued to the military. Standard stampings found on this model are "Colt's Pt/1856" and "Address Col. Colt Hartford, Ct. U.S.A." An estimated 9,300 manufactured between 1856 and 1864.
