Third Model Derringer

Designed by Alexander Thuer, who was also responsible for Colt's first metallic cartridge conversion. Often referred to as "Thuer Model" for this reason. Chambered for .41 rimfire cartridge, has a 2.5" barrel that pivots to the right (but not down) for loading. Third Model has a more balanced appearance than its predecessors and its commercial success (45,000 produced between 1875 and 1910) reflects this. Barrel on this model stamped "Colt" in small block letters on first 2,000 guns. Remainder of production features "COLT" in large italicized print. ".41 Cal." stamped on left side of frame. Model will be found with barrel blued or plated in silver or nickel and the bronze frame plated. Grips are varnished walnut. NOTE: Blued models will bring a premium over nickel in same condition. Add 25 percent for .41 Centerfire model.
