Model 36 (Chief's Special Target)

Known as Chief's Special. Introduced in 1950. Built on J-frame. Chambered for .38 Special cartridge. Holds 5 shots. Has a 2- or 3-in. barrel. Initially offered in a round butt. In 1952, a square-butt version was released. Finished in blue or nickel-plate, with checkered walnut grips. A 3-in. heavy barrel was first produced in 1967, and became standard in 1975. The 2-in. barrel dropped from production in 1993. Ten engineering changes.
